| Today's tour will visit Shenzhen's fascinating historic and cultural sights in the Eastern District of Longgang. Highlights include the Hakka Folk Customs Museum and Enclosures , a large series of concentric circular homes built inside of an exterior wall that basically turns the whole place into a large fort. Inside of the enclosure are a large number of old Hakka residences, some of which are still filled with tools and furniture left over from the Qing Dynasty. We will then journey to lovely Daya Bay for a Seafood Lunch before exploring the 600 year old Dapeng Fortress , an excellent example of a Ming Dynasty-military encampment (1368-1644). The fortress was originally built to resist Japanese pirates who'd been harassing the southern coastal areas of Guangdong. However, the fortress is best known as the site of the British Naval attack of September 4, 1839, in which British forces attacked China in what is widely considered the beginning of the Opium Wars.
