SACS Field Trips
It’s time to saddle up! We are heading for the hidden coastal paradise of Huizhou惠州. So close to Shenzhen yet a world away. Our journey begins with a 2 hour coach trip to the east of Shenzhen where will explore the spectacular beaches, idyllic farm villages and China’s only protected turtle reserve.
There will be two cycling routes, the first one for the experienced bikers who are keen for a workout (~50 kms p/day), while the second route will be leisurely, less strenuous and suitable for kids (~ 25 kms p/day).
The first group will beginning riding along pretty Daya Wan大亚湾 to our lunch destination XunLiao Bay 巽寮湾, while the 2nd group will be enjoying the pristine, beach paradise. The sparkling water and soft sand are described as a “Green Emerald” on a “White Golden Beach”. Boat rides to the nearby islands are available for RMB 200 per boat (own expense). Our group will have its own showers and private change rooms.
After a delicious seafood lunch on the beach, everyone will ride along a quaint off-road stretch with water buffalos lining the street leading us through rice paddies and charming old villages. On arrival in Pinghai Ancient City平海古城, we will have chance to explore. The fortress dates back to the Ming Dynasty (1368 – 1644), where like Dapeng in Shenzhen, it was part of the coastal defence against marauding pirates. Pinghai is honoured as “living fossil” of southern China culture.
After a pleasant day we will relax in quaint Gangkou 港口 Town. Tonight enjoy a casual beach BBQ where we will mingle with the locals and enjoy the fireworks. Our accommodations are a modest but clean 3 star beach hotel.
On Sunday we will begin the day with a visit to Gangkou Sea Turtle National Nature Reserve, the only turtle reserve in China. We will enjoy lunch beach side on the spectacular Double Moon Bay 双月湾 before riding along the beach and into the country side where a trip to Seaside Hot Spring 海滨温泉 will finish off the tour for the leisurely group while the experienced riders will have another 20kms cycling through the countryside.
Our bus will be available to carry luggage, and collect any tired riders or children. We will return to Shenzhen Sunday evening around 7:00 pm. A bike repair will be on hand to help out with any flat tires or other equipment issues. Participants don’t need to have their own equipment, as our price includes the hire of bikes, gloves and helmet. The tour also includes SACS coordination, meals (B1, L2, D1), non-alcoholic drinks with meals, 1 x night twin share accommodation, hotsprings, all entrance fees, English speaking tour guide, charter bus and bike truck.
Tour cost 1350 RMB p/p SACS Members, 1450 RMB for non-members. Costs are based on twin share. Single supplements RMB 250, triple rooms and child prices are available upon request.Tour does not include optional guide gratuities or items of personal nature.
